All great ideas, and as you say even a small step can make a difference. If you're not sure you can afford to donate much, do what I do and every morning remove any small coins from your wallet (or purse). I take out anything less than 50p (I'm in the UK). Put them in a jar or something and when it's getting full donate it all to charity. You'll be amazed how much you can collect this way (and you won't miss it!).

I wish these types of things could solve problems. Blog posts, written concerns, voices..although, in real life I am finding that there is an uneven ratio of writers also playing active roles. We are more busy typing than doing. Poverty, especially when it has been forced upon a man who worked very hard to achieve self sufficiency. This can be a pivotal period, I am speaking from experience.

This is when a man who feels desperation turns to measures he would not otherwise turn to. It increases crimes, hate, ignorance, misinformation and the likelihood of that attitude being passed around to all he touches. More ick. More greed. More poverty.

The only way we personally, as human beings with a conscience, can ensure a mans stability and encourage less poverty, is by being a hand up, not a hand out & certainly being careful not to steal what is rightfully earned by that man. One man can give that to people in poverty. There are not enough of those men.

Thank you, We Are Facebook.

It's great to see so many people participating. I'm hoping that it does start a larger discussion in many places across the world.

Thanks for the reminder Bill. Poverty is a bigger problem than it needs to be. I'm glad it's our global focal point.

You're welcome on the aidtochildren.com site.

I agree with you that there are many steps that we can take, both large and small, that can help make a difference in other people's lives, both online and off.

Hopefully we will see more engaging games and sites like freerice and the other two above...

On the avatars for posts, I'm going to explore some of the other avatar plugins. Hopefully we can get your green monkey showing up here. :)

i was aware of a couple of these play-for-charity sites. aidtochildren.com is one i hadnt visited until now. thanks for the hook-up.

i am a huge fan of doing whatever it takes to create positive change. without it, we are destined for horrible afflictions. if playing a game ensures us of any sort of betterment in the lives of those here and abroad, as well as the earth we take for granted, then play on.

we suck the earths resources dry on a daily basis. we have a responsibility to replace what we consume. there are people on this earth that do not ever have the experience of a full belly and a good nights rest. how can we know this and sleep well at night ourselves, when we havent done what we can to see to it that someone else has had a meal?

One would hope that Australia would avoid the same mistakes that we have made here in the USA. Apparently, greed and short-term profits for the few, but powerful, may override the long term benefits for the many that will inherit our mess.
